Q. What is open-jaw flying and how does this benefit me?
A. Flying "open-jaw" (into one city and out of another) will save time and money by avoiding a costly return to your starting point. Save countries offering the cheapest shopping for the end of your trip so you don't have to carry so much while travelling.
Q. What’s the best seat on a plane?
A. That depends on what you’re after. For more legroom, take an emergency-exit seat. With a toddler, sit near the toilet and galley, for a close loo and extra attention from the crew. For a stable flight, sit near the centre of gravity – just behind the front of the wing. Don’t want to be disturbed? Sit behind a bulkhead, so you’ll have no seat in front to recline into your lap. (However, baby cots are positioned here too). Visit www.seatguru.com and www.seatexpert.com for detailed seat plans.
Q. How do I know if a country is safe to visit?
The most frequently updated and authoritative information is from the Government Travel website, Smart Traveller
( http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/). Beware: if the advice is not to travel, but you still do, your insurance may be invalid
Q. Should I get vacinations before I travel to certain countries?
A. Check with health professionals for information on recommended vaccinations or other precautions and find out about overseas laws on travelling with medicines
Q. Next month I will be travelling to Europe for two weeks, my Passport is due to expire in three months, Should I renew my passport?
A. Ensure your passport has at least six months’ validity from your planned date of return to Australia. Some countries will refuse entry on arrival and some airlines will not allow passengers to board flights if their passport does not meet this requirement. Before travelling, you should contact the Embassy or High Commission of each country you intend to visit to confirm the entry requirements.
