Passau - Vienna
The classical bicycle path along the Donau/Danube
Individual single tour and guided group tour 8 days/ 7 nights – approx
350 km
 |
|
The classical bicycle path along the Donau from Passau
to Vienna is one of the most beautiful routes in Europe with imposing
river landscapes and water meadows. For example the Schlögener Schlinge,
the Linzer Becken (basin) or the Machland, the Strudengau, the historical
Nibelungengau and finally the Wachau – the wine-growing region
at the Donau. Starting-point is Schärding or Passau. Have you ever
listened to a concert performed on the biggest church organ of the world
in Passau?
In Aschach you will catch sight of the ruins of old castles and there
is Enns, the oldest city of the country. The Donau bicycle
path takes you through four Austrian regions: Mühlviertel, Mostviertel,
Waldviertel and Weinviertel. There are still many Vierkant-Bauernhöfe
(squared farms), situated in a slightly hilly landscape.
There are dumpling specialities
and the famous new wine (must) available to buy. Visiting
one of the Buschenschenken in the Wachau is recommended.
This route is predestined for bicycle holidays with the whole family.
Along the Donau flat or slightly downhill; almost
completely on bicycle paths without any traffic. Only very short sections
on side streets. This bicycle path is a perfect example of a biking
tour.
Our individual tour plan
provides overnight accommodation neither on the
day of arrival in Schärding/ Passau or on
the last day of the tour in Vienna. That’s
why, on the one hand, with a shorter journey you
can keep on biking the same day and on the other
hand it is possible to book a different category
of hotel for your stay in Vienna than the one that
is included in the tour. We enjoy booking additional
nights for you. The guided group tours include
an overnight accommodation on the day of arrival
in Schärding and one on the last day of the
tour in Vienna.
| To Passau |
: |
Meet at 10 am at the train
station; handing over of the hire bike
and some final tips; because of few and
expensive parking-places not suitable for
journey by car. |
| To Schärding |
: |
Safe and free parking-places at the
starting-point of the tour (garages are € 8.-/
each day). Most trains stop there (IC and
EC as well). If you want to keep on biking
on the same day, you’ll have to be
at the starting-point by 12 noon at the
latest. |
For the way back from Vienna
to Schärding or Passau we offer you the journey
by bus. It takes you directly from your hotel in
Vienna to your parked car. The price for this return
journey is €34.-. Departure at 3 p.m.; duration:
approximately 4 hours!
