| North Italian Lake Landscape
Guided group tour and individual single
tour 8 days/7 nights - approx 305 km by bike
The Lombardy is the richest, most modern and densely
populated of Italy’s regions. For someone who does not know Lombardy’s
history, its culture, its monuments, art treasures and nature, the tour
might be a great surprise...
The tour is on the whole very easy. Usually slightly
hilly paths, mostly asphalted. You cycle on bicycle paths, side roads
and country roads.
Car park at the hotel with
limited spaces, approx. € 48/week.
You have many good train connections to choose
from. Return journey by mini bus to Lake Garda possible (€ 40
per person, bike included, payable on the spot, reservation necessary).
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival at Lake Garda
Arrival in Desenzano/Sirmione. Greeting and tour information.
Day 2:
Desenzano/Sirmione – Brescia (approx. 45 km)
We leave Desenzano/Sirmione and
cycle towards Cavalgese di Riviera. Along Naviglio
Grande Bresciano (canal with bike path) you reach Mazzano,
Rezzato and Brescia, your destination for this day.
A town with latin origin and a lot of places of interest.
Group tour: city tour.
Day
3: Brescia – Bergamo (approx. 60 km)
Through the lovely vineyards
of the Franciacorta we continue today to Bergamo. Pretty
villas, old noble palaces and stylishly laid out park
grounds surround our way. Via Rodengo (old convent)
and Passirano (well preserved fortress) we reach the
art town Bergamo. (last 15 km by train) Group tour:
city tour.
Day 4: Bergamo – Como (approx.
55 km)
Today we live Bergamo with the
train (about 15 km). In Ambivere we cycle again. Via
Sotto il Monte (birthplace of pope Johannes XXIII)
we cycle along the river Adda to Olginate and Garlate
lake. Through Brianza with further lakes and nice small
towns like Oggione (baptism church San Eufemia) we
reach Como, the town of fashion and silk.
Day 5: Como - Varese (approx. 40 km)
We explore Como with the bike
(cathedral place with Broletto, cathedral and town-hall,
as well as the beautiful and impressive Villa Olmo).
Via Park Spina Verde we cycle on slightly hilly paths
to Varese. Many lakes surround the town of Varese.
The park grounds, the beautiful landscape and the location
at the foot of the massif “Campo Fiori” are
responsible for the town`s special atmosphere.
Day 6: Varese – Sesto
Calende (approx. 40 km)
Today we bike along lake Varese
until we reach lake Monate. Here we cycle easily downhill
through the natural park of Ticino as far as Sesto
Calende. A beautiful town with shore promenade at the
end of Lago Maggiore, seated at the border to Piemont.
Day
7: Sesto Calende – Milan (approx. 65 km)
Today we follow the bike path
along the banks of the Ticino and reach Naviglio Grande,
an old ship channel connecting Lago Maggiore and Milan
since the twelfth century. In the big trade and industrial
city, Milan, everything is modern and progressive.
Technology, fashion, advertisement and design, life
models and even “political experiments” – Milan
is a trend-setter.
Behind the modern, dynamic, future-oriented metropolis
the city conceals former architectural and art treasures,
such as the cathedral, the castle of the Sforza family,
the Oper Scala and the picture gallery Brera.
