Tour Course

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Salzburg
Individual arrival in Salzburg. Information and distribution of bikes. Tour of Salzburg in Mozart’s footsteps: birth place, place of residence, Mozart statue, Waagplatz, Konditorei Fürst, Café Tomaselli, cathedral.

Day 2: Salzburg – Waging (approx. 50 km)
Maria Plain (1774 performance of the coronation mass) is located far above the exit of the Salzach bicycle path. Continue on the Tauern bicycle path to Oberndorf (Silent Night Chapel). Cross the Salzach to the Bavarian town of Laufen, the autumn residence of Leopold Mozart’s employers, the prince-archbishops of Salzburg. A possible detour to (unfortunately not taken care of) Water Castle of Triebenbach, visited often by the Mozart family. Across the Abtsee (lake) to the Waginger See (lake) – Mozart stopped there on his journey to Paris.

Day 3: Waging – Inzell (approx. 40 km)
On the bicycle path between Waginger See and Chiemsee into the capitol of the Chiemgau, Traunstein (royal brewery, town tower, salt works quarters). Continue on the Traun-Alz bicycle path to Inzell (home of the composer, Anton Adlgasser; Mozart’s father was witness to his marriage).

Day 4: Inzell – Bad Reichenhall (approx. 30 km)
Around the Falkenstein and through the Weißenbachschlucht (gorge) to the Saalach. Along the river to the salt works town of Bad Reichenhall, always the first stop on Mozart’s journeys to Italy (guest house “Kaitl”). Mozart also spent two charming days in Bad Reichenhall with his young wife, Constanze. Possible detour to Berchtsgaden (14 km).

Day 5: Bad Reichenhall – Eugendorf/Seekirchen (approx. 60 km)
This stage takes you through Großgmain (Salzburg’s open-air museum) and on the bicycle path through the city of Salzburg and continues on the path of the old Ischl railway track to Eugendorf. Nearby you have the chance to see Gut Aiderbichl, a meeting place between humans and animals.

Day 6: Eugendorf – St. Gilgen/Wolfgangsee (approx. 40 km)
Along the Dragon Wall and Schober to Mondsee. A detour to the market place in Mondsee is worthwhile. Through Scharfling (110 m of altitude) to St. Gilgen, the Mozart town on the Wolfgangsee. Mozart’s mother was born here. The Mozart memorial site brings to mind the Mozart family. The Mozart fountain in front of the local authority building (also worth seeing) reminds of the great composer, Wolgang Amadeus, and the bronze figure in front of the district court house of Mozart’s mother.

Day 7: St. Gilgen/Wolfgangsee – Salzburg (approx. 45 km)
A hike up to Kühleiten (bike transport). Descent over the Tiefbrunnau and Faistenau to the Hintersee. Continue through the Strubklamm and the Glasnebachklamm (gorges) to the southern city outskirts of Salzburg. Rewarding visit to the castle park of Hellbrunn (fountains). Back to the first hotel.

Day 8: Departure or additional nights
Enjoy!
