Istria “The sunny peninsula
in the Adriatic Sea ”
Individual single tour with bus company 8 days/ 7 nights – approx
260 km by bike
Istria is the biggest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea.
It is a region of the almost eternal spring with comfortable temperatures
and Mediterranean vegetation. Istria is the home of olives, figs, almonds,
grapes and numerous small wonders. Slavonic, Romanic and Germanic peoples
meet there and cultures, customs and points of view merge into one. The
Istrians say “As long as there is wisdom, there will be ways.” Despite
the evident Italian past of Istria, there is not one road that leads
to Rome, but all the roads lead into medieval little towns, situated
along the coast, up to small hills, to lonely churches, villages, inns
and to the last craftsmen of dying trades.
Mostly little used side streets; in the interior
of the country there are some roads with loose gravel surface; partly
over hilly terrain. Sometimes main roads are unavoidable.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Journey to Umag
Individual journey to Umag. Handing over of bikes and
tour information. Individual sightseeing tour around
town. The old town centre with its medieval lanes
and sunny spots determines the town’s layout.
Situated in an idyllic spot around a horseshoe-shaped
bay, Umag was a place to be seen for elegant Roman
families.
Day 2:
Circular tour (approx. 25 - 45 km)
Along the extraordinarily charming
coastline, through the hinterland, which is similar
to a national park (slightly hilly, wine-growing region),
and the most northern part of Istria, with a beautiful
view to Portoroz, back to Umag. Shorter route variants
are possible.
Day
3: Umag – Porec (approx. 30 km by bike &
voyage by ship)
Along the coast and through the
interior of the country to Novigrad. A voyage to Porec
(about four hours) and to the Limskadraga Bay. In the
2000-year-old city you can breathe in history (Basilica
Eufrasania, Sincic Palace). Porec is a worthy neighbour
of Venice.
Day 4: Porec – Pazin
(approx. 45 km)
Today you leave the coast and
you get to know the typical, nearly untouched countryside.
You bike through lots of small villages via Sveti Lovrec
to Kringa. There you traverse the “Limskadraga
rift valley” (difference in altitude approx.
300 m). After a more strenuous day to Pazin (Pazin
ravine – unique nature phenomenon at the foot
of a huge rock). The river Pazincica disappears in
a big opening beneath the earth. There is a medieval
fortress above this ravine.
Day 5: Pazin – Rovinj/Surroundings (approx.
50 km)
Via Zminj and Kanfanar (wonderful
view to Limski Channel – unique and inexplicable
freak of nature; fiord or bay with a length of 12 km)
you bike to Rovinj. Magnificent medieval old town that
has an air of Italy.
Day 6: Rovinj/Surroundings – Pula
(approx. 45 km)
The city of Bale is the next
sightseeing point. Then along or near the coast passing
through Fazana (perhaps also visiting Vodnjan, the “Clock
Tower of Vodnjan” – the highest building:
60 m) to the most significant and biggest city in Istria,
Pula (amphitheatre – the biggest building of
classical antiquity).
Day 7: Sightseeing tour & Voyage by ship
Individual sightseeing tour around
town. Around midday is a voyage by ship to the national
park Brjuni (archipelago, consisting of 14 islands
and small islands) planned. In the afternoon you can
make your individual program.
Day 8: Individual return journey
or extra nights
After breakfast the tour finds
its end. Or do you want to stay a few days longer?
