• The driver has to be in possession of a valid driving licence.
• Driving licences from non-EU countries (except Switzerland) are accepted if:
  • No visa has been entered in the passport.
  • The customer has a visa in his passport and at the time of hire has not been in Europe for longer than 6 months. If he has been in Europe for longer than 6 months, he must present a driving licence from an EU country.

• In Germany, the following rules apply for the minimum age and possession of a valid driving licence for at least 1 year:
  • 18 years/1 day for vehicles in groups MCMN to CWMR.
  • 21 years/2 years for vehicles in groups IDMR to LDAR, ETMR, CTMR, ITMR.
  • 25 years/3 years for vehicles in groups XDAR, STMR, PTMR, LTMR, XTMR, PSMR, PSAR, XSMR, XXAR, SFMR, PFMR, LFMR, XFAR.

• We accept all credit cards from internationally recognised credit card companies - such as American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard/Mastercard, Visa.
• Vehicles from the SDMR group and higher as well as Special Cars can only be hired with a credit card accepted by Sixt or a Sixt credit/identification means. All other vehicle groups can also be hired with an EC card.
• Eurocheque cards cannot be used to pay for long-term hiring.
• To hire one of the following vehicles, customers must present two credit cards: Mercedes-Benz S-class, BMW 6 series, Mercedes-Benz SL.

• Third Party Insurance (TI)
  Insurance coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with a maximum cover of EUR 50 Mill for personal injuries and material damages. Maximum cover for personal injuries is EUR 8 Mill per injured person and is limited to Europe only.
  Excluded from the insurance is the use of the vehicle for the transport of dangerous goods. All insurance cover as part of the rental contract will become void, in particular, if an unauthorized driver has used the vehicle or if the driver of the vehicle does not possess the required driver´s licence at the time of the event giving rise to claim.
  
• Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
  Loss Damage Waiver removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of damage or theft.
  If LDW is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the full value of the car.
  If LDW is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts:
  • EUR 750.- (ECMN to SDMR, CWMR, IWMR, SWMR) / EUR 950.- (FDMR to XDAR, IVMR, SVMR, FVMR, FWMR, PWMR, ETMR to XXAR).
    
• Theft Protection (TP)
  Theft Protection removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of theft.
  If TP is not accepted the customer will be held liable for the full value of the car.
  If TP is accepted, customer is only responsible for the following amounts:
  • EUR 750.- (ECMN to SDMR, CWMR, IWMR, SWMR) / EUR 950.- (FDMR to XDAR, IVMR, SVMR, FVMR, FWMR, PWMR, ETMR to XXAR).
    
• Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
  Personal Accident Insurance provides cover against the consequences of an accident.
  PAI includes up to:
  • EUR 20,500.- for invalidity.
  • EUR 12,800.- for decease.
  • EUR 500.- for medical costs.
  • If there are two or more passengers, the sum insured increase by 50%, where the injured person has a proportional entitlement.

• Within city limits a Delivery/Collection Service charge of EUR 15.- applies. Outside city limits EUR 15.- plus EUR 0.60 per km will be charged

• Cross Border Rentals are allowed to the following countries:
  Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.
  Cross Border Rentals are allowed to the following countries but not with Audi, BMW, Mercedes, VW and all Special Cars and Offroader:
  Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia.
• It is also allowed to enter the last-mentioned countries with all vehicles of car groups IVMR, SVMR and FVMR (including MB Vito, MB Viano, MB V class and MB Vaneo) and vans.
• No Cross Border Rentals with Mercedes SL and CL allowed (except to Austria and Switzerland).
• In case of offence against Cross Border & Territorial Restrictions all insurances lose their validity.

• A Service Fee of 19% on the basis rental rate occurs for rentals at airport and train stations.

• VAT
  All rates are inclusive of 16% VAT.
• Emission Sticker
  Starting January 2008, three of these zones (Berlin, Cologne and Hannover) will require an "emission sticker" (Feinstaubplakate) stating the emission on each vehicle intending to enter the zone. Without this sticker, the driver of the vehicle will be fined up to EUR 40 even if the car is registered abroad.

Vehicle Emission Stickers

Vehicles will require special stickers to enter inner- city areas when Germany's first environmental green zones come into force in Berlin, Cologne and Hanover on January 1. Only vehicles that meet specific exhaust emission standards will be allowed to enter the zones. Any vehicles with especially high emissions will be barred.

The zones will be taboo to heavy polluters such as petrol-driven cars without catalytic converters or diesel models that are not fitted with particle filters.
Other cars, including those driven by foreign visitors, will require red, yellow or green stickers to enter the restricted areas. The colors depend on the model's emission level.

The areas especially threatened by fine particulate matter will be marked with signs reading "environmental green zones." An additional sign regulates which vehicles with which color sticker are allowed access to the area.

Motorists caught in the area without an environmental sticker face a fine of 40 euros (57 dollars), but police in Berlin said they would let foreigners off with a warning in the initial stages.

In addition to cars, the rules apply to trucks and busses registered in foreign countries as well as to business travelers and tourists.

Germany's motoring club ADAC estimates that 1.7 million cars will not be allowed into the zones because of their high level of emissions.

Some 17 other cities are due to follow the example of Berlin, Cologne and Hanover and introduce similar restrictions during the course of 2008.

According to a study by the European Union, some 310,000 people fall ill every year from inhaling harmful particulate matter, 20 per cent of them in Germany.

In Berlin, the stickers can be purchased for 5 euros at the vehicle registration office, exhaust emission testing centers or 800 authorized garages.
